New Year Spread

I often like to come up with my own Tarot spreads. I do this for two reasons, the main one being that I often find that the kind of Tarot spread I want to do doesn’t already exist. Sometimes I find a Tarot spread that’s similar to what I have in mind, but it will have extra cards that don’t add much.

The second reason is that I like a spread to be personal to me or the person I’m reading for. Those who have had a reading from me will know that I like to create my own spread that works for what they’re asking about. Many Tarot readers stick to more traditional spreads or they even look online for a spread that fits. I much prefer to think about the person and what answers they’re looking for before creating my own spread.

There’s no wrong way to read the Tarot. You can invent spreads or use other people’s spreads. You can do whatever you like. I am no better or worse than another reader because I create spreads, it’s just something I like to do!

I of course can’t share the Tarot spreads I have created for my clients, but I can share spreads that I have used on myself. Here is my new year’s spread for any Tarot readers out there who want a quick spread to do for the upcoming year.

Card Position Meanings

Card 1 – The Year Gone by

Card 2 – What I Learned from the Previous Year

Card 3 – Career Outlook for 2021

Card 4 – Love Life in 2021

Card 5 – Overall Financial situation for 2021

Card 6 – Obstacles I will face

Card 7 – What I will Learn from 2021

Detailed Explanations

The first card represents you and your behaviour during the previous year. The card should sum up the year in a succinct way. I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘The Tower’ or the ‘Ten of Swords’ appeared in this position unless you actually had a good 2020.

The second card is about what you’ve learned from the previous year (2020) You may have learned a lot during that year but this card should focus on the main lesson. It will be personal to you and should be thought of as an overall lesson that will enable you to move forward in this new year.

The third card moves us straight into 2021. I decided to forget about transition cards, you want to get to the good stuff! This card is of course about your career and where it is going. You should look at this card along with the second card to see if there’s anything that you’ve learned from the previous year that may be influencing your career outcome. Again this card should summarise your career, you may not be able to get a lot of detail from just one card and so you might want to draw another card for more clarity. If your career is of little interest to you or you don’t have a career then feel free to skip this card.

The fourth card represents your love life in 2021. As with the career card, you can choose to skip this card or if you want more clarity, you can pick two cards to give you a more detailed reading of your love life. This card or cards should give you insight into where your love life will take you, it should tell you what will change and what will stay the same. If something interesting comes out here like the ‘Two of Cups’ or ‘The Lovers’ and you’re not in a relationship, you might want to consider doing a ‘Love Tarot Spread’ once you’ve finished the ‘New Year’ spread

The fifth card represents your future financial situation. It will not give you a completely detailed answer but you will definitely find out if you will be prosperous or not this year. You should look at this card along with the third card (maybe even the fourth card in rare cases) to judge whether or not this card/s will influence your financial situation.

The sixth card is an important one because it will show you an obstacle, something that will throw a spanner in the works and possibly ruin your plans. You need to be prepared for any problems that will arise this year so pay close attention to this card. Look at this card along with all of the previous cards. Try to figure out if maybe you’ll end up repeating the same mistakes you made in the previous year, or maybe the love card will shed some light as to why this card has appeared. There is a small chance you will have no obstacles next year, if you think that’s the case then you still might want to look at the previous cards to determine the reason for your success.

Remember that the future is not set in stone and it can be changed. You’re doing this reading to find out what may happen so that you can have the knowledge and the tools to create the best future you can.

The final card is a little like the first card, it will tell you what you will learn from this year (2021) It is almost like an outcome card and it may also help you to understand how the obstacle shown on the previous card will affect you. It should highlight the most important part of this coming year and give you a clear prediction as to what this year will be about for you.

If you’re interested in what lies ahead this year but you don’t have a Tarot deck or you don’t feel comfortable performing your own Tarot reading, then consider purchasing one from an experienced reader, be that me or any other Tarot reader you know. There’s never been a more perfect time to better understand your future.

More Unusual Tarot Spreads

I enjoy hunting for unusual tarot spreads and sometimes I find a really good one that I have to try out.. even if it’s just for fun.

As I did in a previous post, I’ve listed another three unusual tarot spreads that I think you might enjoy. To see the first list Click here

Pet Tarot Spread

1 – Your Connection – This is about the bond you have with your pet and how well connected you both are, it should also indicate what kind of relationship you have. For example if the Magician card came out, it might mean that your cat is your familiar or witches cat.
2 – Why you were brought together – There’s a good chance that you and your animal friend were meant to meet. This card should explain why you needed each other.
3 – What your pet loves – As we all know, we can’t verbally communicate with animals (parrots don’t count as they only mimic) and so it’s tricky to know how your pet is feeling. This card should help a little with understanding what makes your pet happy. For example, if you got the ‘Two of Pentacles’ it could mean your pet loves playing with toys.
4 – What your pet fears – This is along the same lines as card 3 and is about understanding your pet better. It’s useful to know what your pet dislikes and fears so that you can avoid stressing him or her out.
5 – How to help you pet out – Once you know your pet’s likes and dislikes you might want to know how to utilise that information so that you can be the best caregiver and companion you can be. This card should enable you to understand what your pet needs from you.
6 – A message from your pet – Just like you, your pet has a soul and he or she may want to communicate something to you. Since your pet can’t get their message across, the tarot is there to do it for you. From their soul to yours is an important message and it is delivered here in the sixth card.

My Spirit Guide Spread

1 – Who is your guide – A spirit guide could be a dead relative, an angel, a god or goddess, a deceased person or a form of intelligent energy, this card will let you know who your guide is.
2 – A message from your guide about your present situation – This card should represent a quick message from your guide, it won’t be anything serious but rather something that will speak to you and confirm your bond.
3 – A message your guide has been trying to convey to you that you have not been receptive to – This card will represent something more important, it may be the main message that your guide wants to share with you, or it could be a general piece of advice.
4 – How to be more open to messages from your guide – This is all about how perceptive you are and how well you notice the little signs and clues your spirit guide gives you. This card should help you understand how to look for the messages that are being shown to you.
5 – Why is your guide here with you on this journey – Rather than a specific message, this card should be looked at as a general reason why your spirit guide came to you and the importance of having one.

Tarot Spread For Witches

1 – Describe my witchy powers – This card should identify your natural powers as a witch.
2 – How to embrace being a magical person – The second card will tell you what you need to do to build on your witchy abilities.
3 – A way that I can practice my magic – Some witchy folk like to do traditional spells, some cast a circle, others don’t, some pray to a deity, some have alters and some just grow herbs in their garden. This card should tell you what kind of magic you can do. For example if you drew the Hierophant it could imply you would be good at performing magic that involves a lot of old traditions. If you drew the seven of pentacles then you might make a good garden witch or it could mean you gather energy from nature and use that in your magic.
4 – How can I gain more witchy knowledge – No matter what your interests are, there’s always more you can learn, this card should tell you how you can learn more about your craft. For example if you drew The Lovers card, you could look at it as meaning you will be inspired by love or by spontaneity. It could even mean that someone important to you will help you develop your witchy skills.
5 – How can I serve others – With great power comes great responsibility as they say. If you have magical abilities then it’s only fair that you share your gift a little. This card will let you know how you can use your magic to help others and it might even help you to decide who to help. For example if you got the ‘Ten of Chalices’ it could mean you should help your family.

Seasonal Tarot Spreads

There are many tarot Spreads for every season and so I decided to list my favourite ones.

You may wonder why it’s necessary to do a spread based on what season we’re in, well it’s actually a great way to figure out where you are at that point in time and discover how the season will affect you.

Each seasonal spread has its own theme, for example summer is all about light and positivity. You could technically use these spreads at any time of the year but for the best results, it’s better to do them during the season that they’re intended for.

Spring Time Spread

1 – Roots – This card represents you as a person and your past.

2 – Stems – this card is about your strengths and what makes you the person you are today. It could represent the things you’re good at or past obstacles you’ve overcome for example.

3 – Bud – This is all about your potential. It could represent your hidden skills or talents or refer to a petsonality trait that is developing.

4 – Budding – This represents the beginning of something based on your potential, perhaps a new project or even a new relationship.

5 – Blossoms – After learning what you have the potential for and what is likely to happen, the fifth card represents something that is already blossoming. It most likely represents a relationship with the potential to deepen. It can also represent plans which you have in place, coming into fruition.

6 – Prune this – The sixth card is all about things that you need to let go. It could refer to anything from negative thoughts to a toxic person.

7 – Prune that – This card is similar to the 6th card but is more about your doubts and fears and negative thought patterns you need to let go of to reach your full potential.

8 – Bloom – What will bloom at the end of spring? This card is the outcome and represents what is likely to happen in Spring.

Summer Spread

1 – How am I shining my light right now – This is all about what you’ve been projecting to the world, what are you all about? What are your qualities?

2 – Which aspect of my life is ready to shine next – This card represents an aspect in your life which is about to change. It’s also referring to the main theme of the season. For example if you met the love of your life in the summer, then the theme of summer would be love. If you started a new job then that would be the theme or the highlight.

3 – Which aspect has the most potential for growth – What aspect about you is going to evolve and blossom. It could refer to a personality trait, a skill or even your career or a relationship.

4 – How can I nurture that growth – This card is about the things you have to do to ensure that the aspect referred to in the 5th card develops. A plant needs water and a fire needs fuel. What can you do to help things move along? It also could refer to the things you need to do to maintain that growth.

5 – What aspect do I need to shine more light on – In other words, what are your weaknesses? What areas in your life have you been neglecting? Perhaps it’s time you focused on those areas more.

6 – How can I be a source of light to others – What can you do to inspire others? It’s all about your skills and wisdom that may be useful in helping others or improving the lives of others.

Autumn Spread

1 – How can I best find balance in my life – Its often easy to focus on one aspect of your life and neglect the others. This card should help you find a way to balance things out more.

2 – What can I bring into my life in order to keep my soul awake – This card is about the things which excite you, it’s about the things you need in your life to keep you inspired.

3 – What must I shed in order to transition seasons peacefully – This card represents the negativity that holds you back. It could be on a mental level or could be something physical like a negative person in your life. It is more likely to represent a way of thinking or an old habit, addiction or lifestyle choice.

4 – What will emerge as the darkness grows – Autumn represents the end of summer, it is kind of a dark season. It even has Halloween in it! Through the darkness though, you may come to some realisation. This card represents things that may become apparent on those dark and possibly lonely nights.

5 – What messages or lessons will this season hold for me – Once the season is over, what will you have learned? It refers to the events which will happen during the season and how you will lol at them and learn from them.

Christmas Spread

Instead of going for a winter spread, I thought this Christmas spread would be more interesting. It’s based on a spread I’ve used before but I’ve tweaked it a bit.

1 – My Christmas wish – This could be anything from a physical gift from someone or a hope and dream. It most often represents what you want most for Christmas and the next year ahead.

2 – My hopes – Building on the theme of the first card, the second card is more about what you want most out of life and what your long-term hopes and wishes are.

3 – Gift from the universe – Even if you think you’re an unlucky person, there are always things in your life to be thankful about. The universe has many gifts for you and this card represents the gifts which are coming your way.

4 – My gift to share – The final card represents your abilities and wisdom. What can you share with the rest of the world?

5 – outcome – This card will tell you how your Christmas will go. Will you get what you wished for or a lump of coal!

Stress Relieving Tarot Spread

There probably isn’t very many people who have not suffered from stress atleast once in their lifetime. Some people get more stressed out than others, I am one of those people.

Not only am I a stressed out person, I’m also a worrier. I worry about everything! I plan for every outcome and scenario as a way to ease my worrying. Another tactic I use to calm my mind and figure things out is through the tarot.

Learning what is stressing you out and how to manage it and overcome it can actually be done using a stress relieving tarot spread. There are actually many tarot Spreads associated with alleviating stress, but the one I’m sharing with you is the one I use.

1– Your current situation. This refers to your life at that moment and what situation you are in, this could refer to your physical or mental situation.

2- What’s causing the stress you’ve been feeling. Sometimes you’re not quite sure why you’re stressed or there’s so many stressful things in your life that you don’t know which issue needs addressing first. The second card in the spread should identify the issue that is causing you the most stress.

3- What can bring you comfort at this moment in time. Little joys in life can bring you some comfort. In my case it’s watching naff TV shows on Netflix. For some people, talking with a friend can help or playing video games can help them unwind. This card should give you a clue as to what little thing can bring you some relief and comfort.

4- What is something you can look forward to. This could refer to many things. If for example, you’re nervous about a dentist appointment, the thing you might be looking forward to is not having toothache again. Basically the thing you’re worried about will actually solve an issue in your life. Alternatively you might be looking forward to the end of sonething that was stressful, for example you may look forward to finishing your coursework if you’re in school or college. Another way you can look at this is you might look forward to something unrelated to the stressful situation. It could be the thing that keeps you going.. for example you might be looking forward to seeing your friend who is coming. It is important to identify something in your near future to look forward to at the end of a stressful period of time.

5- What can resolve the stress you’re feeling. Sometimes it’s obvious what would alleviate your stress and other times you need a little help with figuring that out. This card should give you some insight into what will make the problem less of a big deal.

6- Who is the person in your life who can make you feel less stressed. Not everyone thinks they have a person to talk to about their problems whom they feel comfortable around. If you definitely know that there’s a person like that in your life, then this card will represent them. For those who don’t think they have anyone like that in their life, this card may very well be surprising when it identifies someone who they might not have considered as helpful.

7- Why is this particular thing so stressful to you. After figuring out from the previous cards in the spread why you’re stressed and how to resolve that stress, you might be curious to know why that particular thing is so stressful to you. This card should dig deep into the darker realms of your mind to help you understand yourself and your triggers.

8- Eventual outcome. This card can be interpreted in a few different ways. If it’s a case of you worrying about an event that is coming up in your life, then this card will signify whether that event will be positive or negative. It may even give you more details about the event, however you might want to choose an extra card for more details and clarification. If you’re stressed because you’ve had a lot on your mind or you feel overworked for example, then this card should let you know what lies ahead after the stressful period.
